Plantains must be served cooked. You can fry, grill, or bake them.

Plantains

Have you ever eaten chocolate covered mealworms?  Do you have an adventurous

palate?  Perhaps, you don’t like the taste of coconut, so you don’t want to use coconut

oil in your cooking.  If you search for recipes on Pinterest, you will see a repeating

theme- substitute coconut oil for any other type of oil. It doesn’t have to go in just

baked goods or sweet foods.

Fried Plantains

Let’s go on an adventure!  Have you ever eaten plantains?  How to fry plantains

requires little instruction. Just follow these easy steps.  Plantains look like bananas,

but you can’t eat them raw. They need to be grilled, fried, or baked.

Green plantains can be a little tricky to peel.  Chop off each end, and then score the

the peeling in three places, so you can easily pull off the peel.

If you’ve never cooked plantains before, you may have to practice a little trial and

error.  Our first attempt failed.  We placed two heaping tablespoons of coconut oil in

the pan and started cooking.

The first batch turned out like mini hockey pucks, and we had to throw them out.

What a sad waste of our Hearty Naturals coconut oil.  The next attempt produced two

good ones!  The taste is unique, a combination of  a fried potato and the tang of a fried

green tomato.  The coconut oil is lighter than vegetable and adds a great, healthy taste.

Always be open to try new things. As we age, our palates change.
