Coconut Oil is Vegan and Dairy Free

Unlike other oils, coconut oil consists of an unusual  blend of medium fatty chain acids including 44% lauric and 16.8% myristic acids.  This unusual make up of acids may be where the secret to the health benefits of coconut oil lie.  These fatty acids go to the liver and form ketone bodies that can provide a quick energy source.  It also provides lauric acid as monolauric acid which can kill bacteria and viruses in the system.

Most saturated fats contain cholesterol and stay solid at room temperature.  Coconut oil is a cholesterol free saturated fat called an oil, but it takes on different properties based on the room temperature. Coconut oil is a solid, semi-solid, or a liquid.  Because coconut oil is high in saturated fats, it accepts higher cooking temperatures and doesn’t smoke like butter which is better than other cooking oils too.  Coconut oil is better than butter for these reasons and more.

Coconut oil is dairy free, so for vegans or those with lactose intolerances, it is the perfect choice. Coconut oil also has a pure quality that doesn’t add unnecessary flavors to your cooking.  This allows the natural flavor of the food to shine.  When cooking with butter, often the butter flavors overpower the food.
