Community Supported Agriculture provides healthy produce!

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) season is just around the corner. One of the best ways to get involved with sustainable agriculture, to enjoy non-gmo produce, and to support small business is through participating in a CSA! It’s an amazing opportunity to know exactly where your food is produced and to have a personal relationship with the farmer. CSAs are increasingly available in cities and can be a wonderful way to provide healthy food for your family.

CSAs encourage community involvement, trips to the farm, and sharing in the prosperity of the farmer. Each week, the in-season produce is harvested and the shareholders take home their portion of the produce. Each member typically has a volunteer role to support the farmer and the CSA. There are so many benefits to joining a CSA! Many even offer organic meat or egg shares (or buying) opportunities as well. Typically the very fresh, seasonal produce is available at a lower than organic supermarket cost. It’s also a great way to try new vegetables and fruits and make new recipes.

Check your local paper, ask around at your farmer’s market, or search online for local farms who offer CSA programs. It’s worth it!

Have you ever participate in a CSA? Will you join one this year?
